Sean was born to high school sweethearts, Alice and Charles Shepard. They had met when she was a sophmore and he a junior. It was like a lot of romance novels. Her father didn't approve of her dating someone older, even if it was less than a year between their birthdays. He had a car and she wasn't allowed to be out past ten pm. Most cases it was 9. They saw each other at school and were both involved in the same after school activities. People kept telling them that they weren't in love, that they were too young. Once Alice graduated high school, the two moved in together and managed to put themselves through college. Alice had her heart set on being a registered nurse and did her two years of study at a local community college while Charles focused on the four year degree. He went into accounting and fortunately for the young couple he landed a decent job after he graduated. Since then, he has moved his way up in the firm and handles the larger accounts and with that comes a larger pay check.

When they welcomed their son, neither of them could be happier. It was the addition that was needed to grow their family. The pregnancy and delivery where both normal, or at least that was what the doctors told Alice. Her coworkers were so happy for her and excited to meet her baby boy. He was named Sean Oliver, the middle name after Charles' father. The years went by and it looked like their little family of three was going to be it. Both parents were busy with their jobs especially once Sean entered grade school. He was involved in all kinds of sports and activities, wanting to try it all. He was about to enter middle school when he was told that he wouldn't be an only child much longer.

He wasn't sure about having a brother but Sean fell into the role quite easily. Yes he was over a decade older but that didn't stop him from teaching his brother new things or telling him how to get away with stuff. By the time he was old enough to be on his own, his brother was still pretty young and Sean made sure to still stop by so they could hang out. He would take Elias to baseball games, to the park, their favorite arcade and sometimes on camping trips if the weather allowed for it. He never wanted to lose that connection with his brother even if they were from different generations and sometimes couldn't relate.

College was an interesting time for Sean. He was on his own for the first time in his life and he learned real quick that mom and dad weren't there to pay the bills or to pick up after him. When something broke, it was his responsibility to fix it or call someone to come and take care of the problem. He partied like most college kids do and he figured out who he was as a person. His heart was to finish his degree at Boston University and then get his law degree from Harvard. It had been his plan since he was younger and he was well on his way to making it a reality. Even though he loved to party and hang out with friends, Sean was a good student. He pulled all nighters if he had to in order to get one last cram session in before a big test. At times he was able to take more courses in order to graduate soon and studied for months before taking the LSAT. The acceptance letter to Harvard was framed and on his wall for months. His buddies made fun of him but he would just tell them that he'd be available to handle their divorces in the near future. The letter was moved to his parents' house as he finished up his last term at BU. It was then that he did an internship at the Boston Police Department. Assigned to the detectives division, Sean was basically their assistant. Once they knew that he had a minor in computer science, they put him to work at the computer. He started doing pattern analysis and running specific reports. People had asked why he had gotten the minor when he was going for a law degree and when he finished up the internship he understood why. When he graduated, he was offered a full time position with the police department. His notice of withdrawal was sent to Harvard and he has loved nearly every minute of his position.

His brother told him that he was joining the military and Sean had mixed emotions. Part of him was extremely proud of his brother. It was a brave thing to join the military and serve your country. On the other hand, he was worried that something might happen and he would lose him. In 2012, he will never forget when he received the call from his mom. She told him to come home, they had to talk to him. The last time he had a call like that, it was because his aunt had died. Worried, he drove to his parents' house in speeds that could have left him behind bars. Once he was inside, he saw his mother on the couch and knew something had happened. She began to cry as she walked towards Sean and wrapped her arms around him. Through her tears, she mumbled something about Elias and Sean's stomach dropped. It was a few days of worrying before the family got all of the details and Sean was so thankful that his brother was alive. He hadn't slept since he received the news and it felt like he was able to breath once he knew that he would see his little brother again.

Some might think his relationship with his brother might change after Elias' accident but Sean doesn't believe so. He is still the same protective older brother that he has always been. His brother gets shit from him when he deserves as Sean has always tried to make a point that Elias is still Elias to him even if there is a little bit less of him, physically. Knowing that their mother was going to drive him crazy, Sean offered to let Elias live with him why he recovered. Their mother insisted that Elias stay home but that only lasted a little over a month before Elias was begging Sean to come get him. Sean had no time limits on how long Elias could stay with him. He kept saying "as long as you need". It didn't matter to him if it was a few days or a few years. All that mattered was his brother was home and safe.

Sean is now living alone in his two bedroom apartment. He loves his place and has it redecorated a few times. His job is going good and it's something that he absolutely loves. There are still nights out drinking and darts thrown. Other nights he's at the theater watching a musical or a comedy show. He tries to keep busy and has even thought about adopting a dog but doesn't think he has enough time to take care of one properly. Whenever he has a free weekend, he is at his parents' helping out around the house or just eating all the food his mom will cook for him and even though his brother is living on his own, they still see each other frequently. Sean isn't afraid to say that his little brother is one of his best friends and that his life is pretty fucking amazing.
